Summit in Puerto Jimenez: November 2012

During the 28th and November 29th, 2012, a summit was hosted by the Osa and Golfito Initiative (INOGO) called "Realizing the dream: Actions to build a promising future." About 50 representatives of social organizations, public institutions and NGOs working in the region were present at the meeting.. The Summit had the following objectives:

  1. Spread the information from products so that they can be used by actors in Osa and Golfito during their decision-making processes for sustainability and the well-being of communities and the preservation of their cultural and natural heritage partner.
  2. Share with social leaders of Osa and Golfito some possible future scenarios developed by GeoAdaptive to explore the different trajectories of change in the region and mobilize various actors towards realizing a future scenario.
  3. Creating a space for dialogue between representatives of local and national public and private sectors; brainstorm and generate synergies of actions for a long-term strategic plan for the sustainable future of the people of Osa and Golfito.

Debates occurred about the proposed scenarios and the challenges they present to local and institutional actors.  While allowing the flow of important technical information, doubts and proposals were mostly allowed a basis on which strategic aims: to ensure the effort and knowledge of everyone was directed toward building a lifestyle in harmony with the natural environment but while ensuring regional development opportunities and a better quality of life for communities. The following reflections are, in short, a contribution to that longing for inclusive development, equitable and in harmony with nature.
