Sustainable Fishing & Marine Turtles of Costa Rica

In an effort to curb the harvesting of marine turtles and other unwanted species of fish, a petition is currently collecting signatures to send to the President of Costa Rica. In order to enforce more responsible fishing practices, the petition calls attention to better vigilance in protected areas, and to the legal establishment for support and creation of alternative sustainable fishing.

Puntarenas (Osa) Mayor Takes Illegal Salary Bonus

Puntarenas Mayor, Jorge Alberto Cole de León, is under suspicion for taking salary bonuses without complying with proper filing and reporting procedures. Between 2008 and 2011, Cole is said to have received an additional ¢50 million in salary. Additionally, he received large payments for work from a company using public funds despite never completing the services.

Course on Resident Birds in Osa Peninsula, June 26-29

From June 26th to 29th, the Neotrópica Foundation, Costa Rican Ornithological Association, and Osa Rural Tours (COOPETURIC) will host a course on resident birds in the Osa Peninsula.
